Teenager from Newbury jailed for baseball bat attack
Dwayne Toussaint and two other chased their victim and beat him up using baseball bats
Three men who attacked another man with weapons have been jailed for a combined total of 19 years for grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, violent disorder and weapons offences in Newbury.
Jake Blandford, aged 20, of Westbrook Road, Croydon, Jake Bozarth, aged 19, of Clarks Row, Oxford, and Dwayne Toussaint, aged 19, of Ewing Way, Newbury, were jailed following their convictions for various offences in November at Reading Crown Court.
Toussaint was jailed for six years and eight months and Bozarth for six years and four months, while Blandford was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment.
Toussaint and Blandford were found guilty of section 18 GBH with intent, two counts of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, following a trial lasting three weeks, which concluded on 30 November 2024.
Bozarth was also found guilty of section 18 GBH with intent, one count of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place in the same trial.
On 8 May 2023, Blandford, Bozarth and Toussaint chased the victim, a young man, away from the address of Dwayne Toussaint in Ewing Way, Newbury, while carrying baseball bats and other weapons.
Upon catching up with him, they have assaulted the victim, causing serious injuries to his head, leading to him being placed into an induced coma and suffering long term medical issues following a bleed on the brain.
Shortly after this initial attack, Toussaint and Blandford have chased another man and attacked him with weapons, including an extendable baton.
Reassure
Investigating officer Detective Constable Sean Morris, based at Newbury police station, said: “I hope that these convictions and subsequent sentences will reassure both the victim, and the local community in Newbury that Thames Valley Police will not tolerate violent incidents such as these within our communities.
“I would like to express my thanks to those witnesses who were brave enough to come forward and support this investigation, which has led to three violent individuals being sent to prison.”
