A teenager has been jailed for a string of driving offences in Bracknell.

Aaron Smith pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident and driving without a licence or insurance at Reading Magistrates’ Court.

The 18-year-old, of Oakengates, Bracknell, was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, banned from driving for two years and fined £220.

At around 9am on 8 April this year, Smith was driving his vehicle along Birch Hill Road above the speed limit when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a lamppost.

The collision sent the car rolling into a house, where the occupants were in at the time, causing significant damage.

The defendant fled from the vehicle before handing himself in at Bracknell police station later that day.

PC Louise Rawnsley, based at Bracknell police station, said:

"I'm pleased that Aaron Smith has received a custodial sentence for this incident of dangerous driving.

“We do not tolerate such behaviour on our roads, and it was only a matter of good fortune that nobody was seriously injured as a result of this incident."
