Staff at a Reading cyber-security company are hoping to raise money and awareness of CPR with a special 24-hour CPR-a-thon.

The CPR-a-thon will take place on Thursday, 17th October, to raise vital funds for the South-Central Ambulance Charity in memory of a much-loved colleague

41-year-old Angela Davies tragically passed away in October 2021 following a cardiac arrest. Her passing has inspired staff to learn CPR, raise awareness, and pay tribute to her.

Teams of eight will work together to maintain 100 compressions per minute on CPR training mannequins for a full 24 hours — that’s around 144,000 compressions in total!

Organiser and the company's market manager Tony Larks said:

"We first did this two years ago and we trained around fifty team members and afterwards I think we vowed never to do it again because it's a really really hard challenge not only staying up late but the physical challenge as well but two years later it's remarkable we seem to have forgotten how hard it was and we're going to give it another go!"

And Tony says he wishes CPR was taught to everyone as part of the school curriculum:

"Cardiac arrest is someone who has dropped down dead and if you don't put hands on chest and start doing compressions that person won't survive and however fast an ambulance arrives you improve their chance of survival by 10% every minute after the arrest has started."

The Tanium team hope to raise more than £12,000 for the south central ambulance charity.

And they're welcoming members of the public to come into their offices in Green Park and learn CPR (see below).
