A speedy grocery delivery service is planning to launch in Reading, with licence applications submitted to work from two sites.

Weezy, which claims to delivers groceries to customers’ doors within 15 minutes of them being ordered, launched in London in 2020 in response to growing demand for food deliveries amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The start-up has submitted a licence application to Reading Borough Council (RBC) for fulfilment centres in north and south Reading, at Richfield Avenue and Britten Road.

It is seeking a licence to sell alcohol off the premises from Monday to Sunday, 7am to midnight at 8B Richfield Avenue and Unit 29 Robert Cort Estate, Britten Road.

Deliveries are made on electric mopeds, bicycles and roller skates, according to the company’s website, with each order taking around 15 minutes to arrive at the customer’s door.

The company sources food from wholesalers, as well as independent shops, bakeries and markets.

Weezy currently operates in London, Manchester, Bristol and Brighton.

Weezy said it did not wish to comment for now on plans to launch in Reading.
