The region’s ambulance service say they have dozens of potential jobs available and they’re calling on people of all ages to get in touch.
South Central Ambulance Service is holding a virtual open day on Saturday (23 Jan) and say they have training courses starting soon for positions in their call centres, ambulance transport service and frontline operations.
Pamela Putt is assistant head of resourcing and says older people shouldn’t be put off applying:
"You're never too old or too young to think about your career in the future. At the last session we did we had a few people on who decided to re-train and become a paramedic in their forties and fifties, and they were looking forward to a long and fulfilling career.
Pam says the SCAS is part of the NHS, but that doesn't mean people have to have any formal medical background:
"Just because you've not done a formal first aid course or you've not had the opportunity to help people with first aid or save someone's life, that doesn't preclude you or stop you from applying to us. We'd love to hear from people with a whole range of backgrounds for these positions.
Sadly ambulances have been very much in the news during the pandemic, and Pam believes that's raised the profile of the ambulance service:
"We did have about 600 people join us on our first session on the 9 January which we're pleased to say did result in a large number of applications for our roles"
If you want to register for the virtual open day - you must go to www.scasjobs.co.uk by 4pm on Fri 22 Jan.
