Snow warnings extended for Berkshire and North Hampshire
The Met Office has issued yellow alerts through to the middle of next week
We are warned to brace ourselves for several days of snow and ice - as weather warnings for snow are extended.
The Met Office has issued yellow alerts for snow from tomorrow night at 11pm (6 January) right through to Wednesday midday (10 February).
Warnings for ice are also in effect from Monday (8 February) through to Wednesday.
Temperatures are set to plunge below zero from Sunday morning with daytime temperatures not pushing much above 2°C.
The Met Office says the snow is expected to be at its heaviest over the weekend causing some travel disruption.
There could also be delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.
Some rural communities could be cut off and there is a risk of power cuts and other services such as mobile phone coverage being affected.
The forecast for the weekend is for rain turning to snow during Saturday night with snow likely becoming persistent, heavy and widespread by Sunday morning.
Accumulations of 1-3 cm are likely, with 5-10 cm possible in places.
On Monday yellow warnings for both snow and ice are in place with a forecast for snow showers.
The Met Office says while some areas within the warning areas will remain largely dry, some persistent bands of showers are likely to develop in places.
Widespread daily accumulations of 2-5 cm are probable, with 10-15 cm plausible in areas where showers merge into more organised and prolonged spells of snow.
Icy stretches will form particularly in areas where there has been some snow melting during the daytime.
