Snow blankets most of the region

People living in Berkshire and most of north Hampshire woke up to several inches of snow

Snow brought wintry scenes to the region on Sunday, for many the first serious snowfall of the winter.

But while for many it was a chance to share wintry pictures on social media there were problems on the roads. Thames Valley Roads Policing asked people not to travel unless "absolutely necessary" as they dealt with collisions on the M4, M40 and A34. The A34 at Oxford was blocked southbound by a jackknifed lorry.

There was some disruption to trains and buses while emergency services warned they might take longer than usual to respond.

This motorist had a lucky escape after crashing on an icy road near Yateley on the north Hampshire/Surrey border.

Police in Hampshire had some advice about social distancing in the snow!

It was business as usual inside Windsor Castle.

But a nearby walk-in covid testing centre stayed open despite the conditions.

At Chawton near Alton the house where Jane Austen spent her final years was captured in the snow.

It was a similar scene nearby at Lasham airfield

But not all of our region woke up to snow - at the Hawk Conservancy near Andover it was merely a frosty start to the day.
