Damage caused to historic house in west Berkshire
The gates to Shaw House have been destroyed by a coach colliding with them
The gates of an Elizabethan mansion in Newbury have been destroyed after being hit by a coach carrying wedding guests.
The pillars and finials at Grade I listed Shaw House were also damaged in the crash on Saturday.
West Berkshire Council owns the building, which was once King Charles I's headquarters during the English Civil War.
A council spokesperson said:
"The area has now been cordoned off, so if you are accessing the house, please use the main car park entrance. We will issue further updates when they are available."
A Statement from Shaw House said:
"Thank you for kind messages regarding damage to the historic gates. We would like to confirm that this was an accident & nobody was hurt. Visitors should use the main car park while the area is cleared. Wheelchair access is from the top of the car park via the old kitchen garden."
