Serious assault in Basingstoke - with man suffering stab wound to his chest

Hampshire Police say they were called out by paramedics following the incident at around 7:30pm last night (2nd May)

A man has suffered a stab wound to his chest during a serious assault in Basingstoke.

It happened at about 7.30pm yesterday (May 2), with the police told about the incident after being called out by ambulance staff to reports of a serious assault in Woburn Gardens.

The 34-year-old was rushed to hospital for treatment, and his injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening.

Officers have been at the scene today carrying out enquiries to find out exactly what happened.

As part of their investigations, Hampshire Police say they we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed or heard something.

Detective Inspector Mike Higgins from the Northern Investigation Team said “We know incidents of this nature can be extremely concerning for the local community however please be reassured that enquiries are in hand and we believe this to be an isolated incident.

“Officers will remain in the area today carrying out enquiries. If you have any concerns or information please don’t hesitate to speak to them.”
