Third arrest over serious assault in Basingstoke

A man has already been charged with attempted murder

Police investigating a serious assault in Basingstoke have made their third arrest.

They were called at 11.24pm on Tuesday 30 January to reports of an assault on a footpath near Buckskin Lane.

A man in his 40s reported being assaulted with an unknown weapon. His phone was also taken. He suffered serious facial and head injuries and was taken to hospital to receive treatment.

This morning (12 February), officers arrested a 16-year-old boy from Basingstoke on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing a controlled drug of Class B. He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

It comes after officers charged a teenager. Amman Majid, 18, of Chivers Close, Basingstoke, was charged with attempted murder and possessing a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place.

He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Winchester Crown Court on Wednesday 6 March.

A 21-year-old man from Basingstoke was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery. He has been bailed with conditions until Thursday 2 May.
