A second weather warning this week for thunderstorms is now in place, covering Berkshire and North Hampshire.

It follows a yellow alert earlier this week across the region, which only went down yesterday.

Today's warning was issued for 6am and lasts through to 6pm this evening (18 June).

The Met Office says spells of prolonged heavy rain could be accompanied by thunder and lightning.

It says some areas across the South East could get 20-40 mm of rain with a few sites potentially seeing 50-70 mm.

However, many areas will see much less rainfall.

For those places affected, the Met Office says there is a chance of disruption to travel, and damage to homes and businesses from flooding or lightning strikes.

It also warns of fast flowing or deep flood water causing danger to life.

The Met Office's five day forecast for the South East:

Today:

It will be cloudy with occasionally heavy, thundery rain spreading northwards through much of the day. Winds will become strong along Kent coasts later, giving a rather cool feel to the day. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain will clear most areas through the evening, then mainly dry with clear spells developing overnight. Strong winds along coasts will tend to ease later. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Saturday:

Variable cloud will allow warm sunny spells to develop. Most places will be dry until mid-afternoon. Then further heavy, perhaps thundery rain will arrive by the evening, continuing overnight. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Often cloudy with occasionally heavy rain or thundery showers through the period. Sometimes warm in sunny intervals between showers.
