Pedestrian seriously injured in west Reading

A man has suffered serious injuries after colliding with a car in west Reading.

The incident happened just after 11.30pm on Saturday night in Grovelands Road at the junction of Drayton Road.

A witness has reported that a pedestrian stepped into the path of an oncoming car.

South Central Ambulance Service has told us:

"We received a call at 23:37 to reports of a patient who’d been hit by a car. We sent to the scene an ambulance crew, ambulance officer, and the critical care cars from both the Hampshire and Isle of Wight and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance. They were assessing and treating one patient for serious injuries. Following treatment at the scene by all our crews the patient was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital accompanied by the air ambulance crew."

Thames Valley Police say:

"A 19-year-old man from Reading was arrested and has subsequently been released under investigation.

"The victim is in hospital in a stable condition at this time".
