Police have held a 4-hour road safety crackdown on two roads near Wokingham.

The aim was to educate and raise awareness among cyclists and motorists of the dangers of overtaking too closely and to remind cyclists of the importance of making themselves more visible on the roads.

An officer riding a bicycle fitted with cameras rode along the Finchampstead Road and Nine Mile Ride. Vehicles that passed too close, were pulled over by another officer and offered education as an alternative to prosecution.

Thames Valley Police Road Safety Officer Liz Johnson said: "unfortunately we've had a couple of people brought in - one was overtaking our cyclist too close and also not wearing their seatbelts which is an offence and we will deal with that accordingly and we've had another vehicle that accelerated hard and we've obviously spoken to them"

Police are working in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council. More information can be found here: https://news.wokingham.gov.uk/news/council-and-local-police-launch-close-pass-cycling-awareness-initiative-in-wokingham/
