New wellbeing hub for young people opens in Thatcham
It aims to provide early intervention for children and young people requiring mental health support
A mental health charity which supports people across three different counties has opened a new Wellbeing Hub for children and young people.
Response, which operates across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, provides support for people aged 11 and above, right through to those in their final years of life.
The charity, which is celebrating its 60-year anniversary, has opened its Wellbeing Hub at the newly refurbished, fully accessible Carramar site in Thatcham.
With a focus on youth-led, non-clinical mental health support, the Hub aims to provide a much-needed early intervention service which helps reduce NHS waiting times and relieves pressure on schools and community services.
Lifeline
Jamie Douglas, Associate Director of Children, Young People and Families at Response, said: “We’ve seen first-hand how vital this Hub is to the young people and families in Thatcham.
“This is more than just a service, it’s a lifeline. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved with one dedicated key worker so far, but we know the demand is growing and schools are asking for more support.
“With additional funding and community backing, we can extend our reach and ensure no young person feels alone in their mental health journey.”
The Hub offers a variety of services, including after-school drop-ins, one-to-one support and family sessions. All activities are designed to empower young people, create community connections and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Response provides essential well-being resources, tailored support programmes and safe stable housing, while offering specialised services for children and young people, and for families who need support. It enables people experiencing mental health challenges and complex needs to live their lives to the full.
