A Reading theatre group has been forced to delay the start of their Christmas production after an outbreak of Covid in their company.

Reading Rep say the cancellation of nine performances of their adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' will have a "massive financial impact".

They now hope to start the production next week.

The show was a new adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol'

In an email to supporters Head of Development Megan Turnell said:

"The safety and wellbeing of our audiences and team is our top priority, and we shall continue to follow our robust safety measures, as well as government guidance.

"As a newly built theatre, and as a registered charity, cancelling almost a third of all scheduled A Christmas Carol performances will have a massive financial impact on Reading Rep Theatre. Please do consider booking for a performance later in the run to make sure you don't miss out on this festive treat, and to help us overcome this shortfall."

Reading Rep had only just opened their new theatre on the Kings Road and 'A Christmas Carol' was their second production at the new venue.

Last month another Reading theatre group - Rabble - were also forced to cancel a run of their murder mystery production after a similar outbreak, at the time they said the cancellation had put their existence at risk.
