Kelly Chambers to leave Reading FC Women

Reading manager Kelly Chambers is leaving the club after their relegation from the Women's Super League.

She's been with the Berkshire side for 16 years, having also spent her entire playing career there.

Chambers is also stepping away from her role as director of football.

She took the Reading FC Women reins back in 2012 and guided them through two promotions and a Women’s FA Cup Semi-Final appearance.

In 2017-18 Chambers’ Royals finished fourth in the top tier – behind only Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City and ahead of both Everton and Liverpool in losing just four games all season.

The following season Reading outshone both Merseyside clubs once more as well as the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion and West Ham United to finish in fifth and reach the FA Cup semi-final.

In a statement Reading FC said:

"The part Kelly has played within the modern era of Reading Football Club should not be underestimated or understated, nor should her love for the game or her club.

Everyone would like to thank Kelly for her remarkable contribution to Reading Football Club, wish her the very best of luck in her future career and offer our very best wishes to her and her family as she prepares for the arrival of her second child in the coming weeks!

A role similar to the one Kelly is vacating will shortly be advertised as the club seek to appoint a brand new manager for Reading FC Women ahead of the start of the Championship season in August."
