Last weekends Reading Half saw many individuals take the streets to raise money while running, including for the Sue Ryder charity which was proud to be a partner once again for the Reading Half this year.

Sixty runners supporting Sue Ryder got together for a team talk before the race and were supported and refuelled at the official Sue Ryder cheer point outside of Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice.

One of the runners, Sabina Reed, ran alongside her family in memory of her mum who was cared for at Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice.

Her husband, daughter and brother all ran alongside her sporting outfits such as a lion costume.

Sabina said: “It was a really tough time and the support we had from Sue Ryder was amazing, from helping with equipment and medication for my Mum, to providing emotional support. Their kindness made an incredibly tough time a little easier, especially from Sue Ryder Nurse, Connie.”

Sabina and her family have raised, in total, more than £2,000 for Sue Ryder.

"Starting to run again after Mum passed away gave me something to aim for. I signed up for the Reading Half Marathon to give back to Sue Ryder for all the support they gave us. Running has been a great focus for me after such a difficult time.

“The race was fun but hard! Having the support from the Sue Ryder team really helped, especially on the day at the Sue Ryder stations with people cheering us on. It gave me such a boost to keep going when I was struggling.”

Owen Chengun, Community Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice, said: "Reading Half was once again a brilliant event for Sue Ryder to be involved in this year. We are so grateful to all out supporters who ran, and we loved being there to cheer them on.

“When people like Sabina take on challenges like this to raise funds as a way of giving back to the hospice, it really does mean so much. All the funds raised will enable us to continue providing compassionate care to those in their final days, as well as much-needed support for their families during such difficult times.

“If you have been inspired by our runners this year, we would love you to join our team of runners supporting Sue Ryder for Reading Half 2026.”
