Reading's game on Boxing Day at Peterborough has been called off due to Covid.

The club still has a significant number of first team and under-23 players unavailable due to a covid outbreak.

A club statement said:

"We are disappointed to announce that our visit to Peterborough United on Boxing Day has been postponed.

"This decision, which has now been confirmed with the EFL, comes as a result of a significant number of ongoing COVID-19 cases within our first team and Under-23 squads.

"In light of the increased transmission rate of the Omicron variant, the EFL will review the circumstances surrounding the postponement and continue to assist affected clubs throughout this challenging period to help them mitigate against the risk of infection amongst players and staff.

"We apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment that this causes to supporters of both clubs. However the priority remains the health, safety and welfare of our players, coaching team and club staff and their full recovery at the earliest time.

"We will announce the date of the rearrangement in due course, once agreed with the EFL and Peterborough."

It's the second game to be affected by the outbreak last weekend's 150th Anniversary celebration game at home to Luton was also called off.
