Day ticket prices are being significantly reduced - due to a new initiative being launched by Reading Buses and Reading Borough Council.

A new cheaper day ticket covering journeys on Reading Buses and all other operator services within Reading will be available from Monday March 13, knocking up to 22% off the existing day ticket price.

Announcing the new ‘Reading All-Bus’ day ticket today, Reading Buses and Reading Borough Council say an adult ticket will give all-day travel for £3.40 when bought on the Reading Buses app or £3.50 when purchased from the driver.

There will also be reductions for young people aged 18 or under and a group ticket for up to four people providing ‘great value’ to everyone in the Reading area.

The young person’s ticket is priced £2.60 on the app and will be available to anyone aged 18 and under, and the group ticket for up to four people will be priced at £5.50 when purchased after 9.30am Mondays to Fridays and anytime weekends and public holidays, or £9 if purchased before 9.30am Mondays to Fridays.

Robert Williams, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer said:

“We are thrilled to be launching the discounted Reading All-Bus ticket range with Reading Borough Council. This has come about through our strong local partnership attracting central government funding for the next two years. The new range of tickets will mirror our simplyReading day ticket zone, but with a discount of up to 22% on current fares.

“We hope this new range of cheaper tickets will entice more people out of their cars and try the bus, and the more people we attract the lower we can keep fares for longer.

“The ticket will be priced at a discount to our current simplyReading offering and as an added bonus will be sold and accepted on all other operator buses within the simplyReading zone.

“We hope this encourages more people to choose the bus and reduces the number of private cars on the road.”

The new Reading All-Bus ticket will cover journeys not only on Reading Buses, but services provided by Arriva, Thames Travel and Thames Valley Buses within the simplyReading area.

The funding for the new day ticket comes from the Government’s National Bus Strategy and Reading Enhanced Partnership’s Bus Service Improvement Plan that attracted £26,263,600 funding from the strategy pot last year.
