A serving officer who was based at Reading has been sentenced for harassment.

A Salisbury Crown Court jury found PC Miriam Virgo, who is based at Reading police station, guilty of one count of harassment on Tuesday 24 September 2024. The verdict was unanimous.

Appearing at Winchester Crown Court, Virgo was sentenced to a community order of 35 days of unpaid work and an eight-week electronically monitored curfew to reside at her home address between the hours of 9pm and 6am.

She was also ordered to pay costs of £600 and a £95 victim surcharge and was subjected to a restraining order of five years.

PC Virgo has been suspended from duty while the court proceedings were ongoing.

Unacceptable

Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs said: “PC Miriam Virgo displayed wholly unacceptable behaviour and she has now been convicted and sentenced for harassment.

“Incidents such as this, particularly from serving officers, affect public trust and confidence in our force, and misconduct proceedings will follow in early March.

“I hope that this court outcome shows that we will take decisive action in circumstances like this in order to build and maintain the trust and confidence of our communities in Thames Valley Police.”
