Man arrested in connection with Thatcham rape investigation

Police have arrested a man in connection with a rape investigation in Thatcham.

At around midnight a week last Monday (16/8) officers were called after it was reported that a woman had been raped in a lay-by on the A4 in Thatcham, opposite the junction with Cox’s Lane.

An investigation was launched and officers have arrested a 28-year-old man from Bracknell. He remains in custody at this time.

The victim continues to be supported by specially trained officers.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Alice Broad, said:

“We are continuing our investigation following this deeply concerning incident. There are a significant number of enquiries ongoing, one of which has led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of rape.

“We continue to appeal to members of the public who may have information that could assist our investigation to please come forward if they have not already done so and to remind the public to public to remain alert and cautious to anything suspicious and to report any concerns to Thames Valley Police.”

“Members of the public are likely to see a continued police presence as we continue our investigation.

“As part of the investigation further work is being carried out at the scene and temporary traffic lights will be in place while this is ongoing and may remain in place for at least 24 hours.

“We would like to thank members of the public for their patience.”
