Severe weather warning for parts of Berkshire and North Hampshire

The Met Office forecasts heavy rain through tonight

A warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office.

The yellow alert covers Basingstoke, Hungerford, Andover, Thatcham and Tadley and is in place from 5pm today (4 October) through to 4am tomorrow (5 October).

The Met Office warns of up to 30mm falling in a few hours: "A band of heavy rain, accompanied by strong and gusty winds, will move eastwards across Wales and southwest England into central and southern England this evening.

"20-30 mm of rain could fall in a few hours with as much as 40-50 mm in a few spots in southwest England, South Wales and also north-western parts of Wales.

"Western parts of the warning area, except northwest Wales, will become drier from the west through the evening."

The Met Office also warns of the risk of disruption to travel as well as the chance of homes and businesses being flooded.
