A photograph of Reading's famous gas tower has been given national recognition in a competition run by English Heritage.

Leslee Barron - who took the picture - is one of the top ten finalists in the 'History photographer of the year' competition.

Her picture shows the east Reading landmark at sunset.

She told us the sunsets on the tower are always incredible:

"It fascinates me because it can look black, white, silver, gold it's got all these different shades", the picture has been in public circulation for a while and Leslee says it's proved popular "it's on a cover of an album an electronica album and the album name is 'of its time' which was chosen to go with the photograph. I sell cards, Christmas cards, calendars all featuring the picture, it's always remained my favourite photograph it just hit the light and I said 'wow that's beautiful'.

The tower is currently being demolished to make way for new flats.
