Police appeal for witnesses to assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Newbury.

The incident occurred between 7-8pm on Friday (26/1) on the River Kennet footpath between Newbury Town Centre and the footbridge that connects the Northcroft side of the river to Russell Road side of the river.

A girl in her teens was pushed into the river by the offender.

The offender is described as a man, of average build, over 5ft 8ins tall, and was wearing a black beanie hat, black coat and dark coloured bottoms.

Investigating officer, PC Dan Parnell, based at Newbury police station, said:

“I would like to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed, or who may have information, about the incident to come forwards.
