Museum plans exhibition to support first ever Newbury Pride event

Newbury Pride is working in partnership with West Berkshire Museum to develop a community exhibition that shares the stories and experiences of those who grew up or live in and around Newbury as LGBTQIA+ people

Author: Jonathan RichardsPublished 14th Mar 2022

The exhibition will support Newbury’s first Pride event which is being planned for July 2022.

Newbury Pride is currently collecting stories from LGBTQIA+ people and would like to hear from you. This could be through sharing a personal experience or loaning objects that tell a unique story. Your story can be shared anonymously and you do not have to give your name to be able to participate. If you would like to take part, please complete this short survey by 20 March: https://t.co/ElPiDJChh6.

The Newbury Pride Committee is also on the lookout for some passionate people to join its team and help organise Pride 2022. If you would like to find out more visit: https://newburypride.org.uk

West Berkshire Museum actively adds objects to its collection and hosts exhibitions, which reflect local communities. The Museum recently added ‘contemporary collecting’ to its Collections Development Policy. If you are interested in finding out more or have objects that you would like to donate that would help to represent LGBTQIA+ people in West Berkshire please contact: collections@westberks.gov.uk.
