A 37 year old man has been arrested in suspicion of murder in Reading.

It's after the body of a man in his 70s was discovered at a house on Elgar Road on Wednesday night (1/12)

The victim is yet to be formally identified, but family and friends have been informed.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard, of Thames Valley Police, said:

“Tragically, following a call to an address in Elgar Road, a body has been located and a murder investigation has been launched.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation, but an arrest has been made in connection with it.

“My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.

“A large scene-watch is in place in Elgar Road, and there will be a visible and increased police presence in the area for some time while this investigation continues.

“Understandably, this incident will cause great concern in the local community, but at this early stage of our investigation, we do not believe there is a wider risk to the public and believe that the victim and offender are known to each other.

“If anybody has any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers."
