Berkshire & north Hampshire's MPs react Liz Truss victory

The region's MPs went on social media to offer their congratulations

There have only ever been three women prime ministers so it was perhaps apt that the woman who was previously resident at 10 Downing Street should be first to react on social media.

Maidenhead MP Theresa May offered her support within minutes of the announcement:

Newbury MP Laura Farris, who had openly supported Rishi Sunak, said she looked forward to developing plans to help households and businesses in west Berkshire cope with energy bills.

While Kit Malthouse, who represents north-west Hampshire and was a staunch ally of Boris Johnson, said it was a historic moment:
