A firefighter who tragically died tackling a major blaze in Bicester will be honoured with a funeral procession through the town today.

Martyn Sadler, 38, died alongside his colleague Jenny Logan and father-of-two Dave Chester when a fire broke out at Bicester Motion on May 15th.

Martyn was a wholetime firefighter for the London Fire Brigade and an on-call firefighter in Oxfordshire, stationed at Bicester Fire Station.

He previously served as a firefighter with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service for over 15 years from 2006 and all three brigades will be part of lining the procession.

The cortege will enter Queens Avenue from Banbury Road, before pausing for a minute silence outside Bicester Fire Station at approximately 11am.

In a social media post, Bicester Fire Station said: "If you wish to support from Queen's Avenue, we ask for you to stand on the opposite side of the road to our fire station”.

They added: "Your presence will mean so much to us and Martyn's family and friends."

Steve Wright, General Secretary of the Fire Brigades Union, said: “This devastating incident has profoundly impacted everyone within and associated with the Fire and Rescue Service.

“In consultation with Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, we are calling on all FBU members to hold a visible one-minute silence at their workplaces at 10.45am AM on the day of Martyn’s funeral.”

He added: "As we come together to honour Martyn, we carry forward his kind heart and his passion for the fire and rescue service.”

Road closures will temporarily be in place approximately between 9.45am - 11.15am on the following roads: Banbury Road, Buckingham, Field St, Queen’s Avenue and Queen’s Court.

The deaths of Martyn, Jennie, and Dave are subject to an ongoing investigation by police and an inquest by the coroner, which has been adjourned until 25 November 2025.
