A man has been jailed for more than two years after he was convicted of drugs supply offences in Reading.

48-year-old Matthew Ramsey, of Brisbane Road in Reading, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin in a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Ramsey was sentenced to a total of two years and three months’ imprisonment.

At 4pm on 3 February this year, officers stopped Ramsey on Drayton Road in Reading as they suspected him to be dealing drugs.

Ramsey attempted to discard more than 120 wraps of crack cocaine and heroin before he was arrested.

He was charged the following day (4/2).

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police’s Priority Crime Team at Reading police station said:

“Thames Valley Police do not tolerate drug dealing in our communities, which cause untold harm to many people, particularly those most vulnerable in our society.

“Through our Stronghold campaign, we proactively target and disrupt offenders such as Ramsey, and seek to put them before the courts.

“Ramsey has now been sentenced accordingly for his criminal acts, and he will had a period of time to reflect on his actions and the harm that these cause.

“We need and appreciate the support of the public with this and would always ask you to report any information you have about drugs in our communities to police.

“You can do this by calling 101 or making a report online, or report anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online.”
