A man has been jailed for a rape in Reading.

Catalin-Petrisor Luca, aged 33, of Chesterman Street, Reading, was sentenced to six years and 11 months’ imprisonment in a hearing at Reading Crown Court on 22 May.

He pleaded guilty to one count of rape at the same court on 3 February.

In the early hours of Sunday 30 October last year, Luca led the victim, a woman in her twenties, down an alleyway off Garrard Street and raped her.

He was arrested and charged on 3 November last year.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Amy Hennah, based at Reading police station, said:

“Luca took advantage of the victim while she was drunk and vulnerable. I am pleased that he will now serve a considerable amount of time in prison.

“Thames Valley Police takes rape and sexual assault offences extremely seriously and will investigate robustly to bring offenders to justice.”
