Man jailed for child cruelty and sexual offences in Reading

Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, a man has been jailed for rape, child cruelty and other offences in Reading.
Andrew Caldria, aged 37, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 20 years in prison at Reading Crown Court on Friday (24).
The judge also issued Caldria with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life and a restraining order in relation to the victims.
On 2 April, a jury unanimously found Caldria guilty of five counts of sexual assault of a female under 13, two counts each of child cruelty and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one count of rape of a female over 16, following a nine-day trial.
The jury also found Caldria guilty by majority verdict of one count each of rape of a female over 16 on at least five occasions and attempted rape of a female under 13.
The jury unanimously acquitted Caldria of two further counts each of rape of a female over 16 and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one further count of rape of a female over 16 on at least five occasions.
Caldria was charged with the offences, which relate to three victims, on 17 October last year.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Stephen Johnson said: “The abuse Andrew Caldria has committed is deplorable, and I am in awe of the strength shown by all the victims in this case.
“They have held their heads high and told the truth from the beginning, speaking up against the abuse that occurred behind closed doors.
“Their strength has led to Caldria being convicted by a jury of his peers and later sentenced to 20 years in prison.
“This case demonstrates how we will support victims to get obtain justice.
