A man has been jailed for more than two years after he was convicted of grievous bodily harm in Bracknell.

21-year-old Brandon Neal, of Berkshire Court in Bracknell, pleaded guilty to one count of Section 20 grievous bodily harm in a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Neal was sentenced to two years and one month imprisonment.

At just before 7.20pm on 26 March last year, Neal was walking in Worlds End Hill Park in Bracknell when he started arguing with the victim, who was 24 at the time of the offence.

Neal smashed a bottle onto the victim’s forehead, causing a 4cm gash down to her skull.

The victim’s partner then tackled Neal to the ground in self-defence, before Neal walked off.

Neal was arrested on the same day and charged via a postal requisition on 14 September.

PC Jake-Jon Crowdey, based at Bracknell police station, said:

“This was a horrendous attack on a member of the public who was not known to the defendant.

“The victim sustained life-changing injuries as a result of this incident and has permanent scarring on her head.

“I am pleased to see that a custodial sentence has been given, as this attack left the victim both physically and mentally scarred.

“The victim is pleased that justice has been done and she is now able to move on with her life.”
