A 42-year-old man from Basingstoke has been sentenced to three years in prison for assaulting his ex-partner.

Simon Christian, of Tennyson Way, attacked the woman, who is in her 30s, on 24th February 2024 at his flat in Basingstoke.

At Winchester Crown Court, jurors heard how Christian bit her shoulder, pulled her hair, and left multiple bruises on her arms and legs after throwing her across the room.

Christian was also found guilty of breaching a restraining order on several occasions. Between 30th October 2024 and 10th April 2025, he repeatedly turned up at the woman’s home in Hook and sent her calls, texts, and messages on social media.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment – breach of a restraining order. He was convicted of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm but was acquitted of assault by beating.

On 12th December, Simon Christian was sentenced to three years in prison and handed a restraining order lasting seven years.

T/Detective Constable Beth Hill from CID North said the investigation demonstrated Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s commitment to tackling domestic abuse.

"Simon Christian physically and mentally abused his ex-partner and the shocking attack in February 2024 left her with multiple bruises and bite marks," Hill said.

"I would like to praise the woman for her bravery throughout the investigation, and trial, and I hope she is able to try and move forward knowing that her abuser will spend time in prison for what he did to her."

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has stated its zero tolerance approach to domestic abuse and urges anyone experiencing abuse to report it.
