After an investigation by Thames Valley Police, a man has been jailed for assaulting his former partner in Bracknell.

Oliver Neal, aged 25, of Sandy Road, Addlestone, Surrey, has been jailed for four years after he pleaded guilty to one count of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and one count of battery.

On 4 October last year, Neal assaulted his then partner, a woman in her twenties.

Neal and the victim were in a car when Neal struck her multiple times in the face, causing a black eye and bruising to her face.

In early December, the victim ended the relationship with Neal.

After this, on 8 December, Neal broke into a property in Bracknell where the victim was staying and seriously assaulted her.

The victim suffered a broken nose, two fractures to her eye socket, black eyes, a haemorrhage injury to her right eye, as well as other wounds to face.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Anuk Sirisena, said: “This conviction is a testament to the bravery and tenacity of the victim who spoke up in the face of prolonged abuse that left her with serious physical and mental injuries.

“The victim’s tremendous courage was instrumental in securing this conviction against Oliver Neal, who is a danger to women.

“Thames Valley Police will always listen to the victims of domestic abuse and investigate thoroughly.

“If you are a victim then please contact the police. We have specifically trained officers who will listen and support you.”

Neal was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday (22/7).
