Man dies after crash in Reading

It happened just before 6.40am in Calcot.

A man's died after a collision in Calcot, Reading.

At just before 6.40am this morning, a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a vehicle and died of his injuries at the scene on the A4 Bath Road near to the Lidl superstore.

Police say the road has been closed for investigation work, and is likely to remain closed between Mill Lane and Hogarth Avenue for several more hours.

A 41-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently in police custody.

Investigating officer Sergeant Matt Cadmore, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This tragic incident has occurred at the start of the rush hour in Calcot.

“I am making an urgent appeal to anybody who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage of the incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I would also like to thank those who helped at the scene in the early moments following this collision.

“The man’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. My thoughts and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police are with them that this extremely distressing time.”
