Man convicted of Slough murder

A man has been convicted of a murder in Slough.
Jakub Nowicki, aged 40, of Ascot Road, Maidenhead, was today (10/11) found guilty by a unanimous jury verdict of one count each of murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, after a trial at Reading Crown Court, lasting 11 days. He pleaded guilty to criminal damage at an earlier hearing.
At 6.45am on 25 April this year, police were called to a property in Grant Avenue and located two people who had been assaulted.
One of the victims, Tomasz Kopec, who was 46 years old, sustained serious injuries and died in hospital on 27 April.
The second victim, a 34-year-old woman, sustained injuries and required minimal medical treatment. She has since made a full recovery.
Nowicki was arrested the same day and was charged the following day (26/4).
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Throughout this investigation, our thoughts have remained firmly with Tomasz Kopec’s family and friends.
"We hope this conviction brings even a small measure of comfort as they continue to carry the weight of such profound loss following this savage and senseless act of violence.”
Nowicki is due to be sentenced at the same court on Monday 17 November.
