Man suffers broken ribs and punctured lung in Newbury attack

He was injured by an unknown man in the centre of the town

Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident of grievous bodily harm in Newbury.

At around 5pm on Sunday (2/4) the victim, a man aged 37, was assaulted by an unknown offender in Northbrook Street.

The victim sustained suspected broken ribs and a punctured lung and was assisted by a member of the public, who contacted the ambulance service.

He was taken to hospital in Basingstoke, where he remains at this time.

Investigating officer PC Andrew Whitfield, based at Newbury police station, said:

“I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“I would be particularly keen to hear from anybody who was driving in the area and may have dash-cam of the incident to contact us.
