A 21-year-old man from Reading has been arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of sending 'malicious messages' - after reading played Birmingham City on Friday.

Following the match which Reading lost, police became aware of messages they're calling 'distressing' - that had been posted on Facebook groups.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Gareth Perry, based at Reading, said:

“We have been made aware of some very distressing comments made online following the Birmingham City vs Reading FC match.

“We have taken swift action in relation to these comments and a man from Reading has been arrested and a full investigation is being conducted.

“The comments will have caused anger to members of the public, and particularly for Birmingham City supporters, but we would strongly advise members of the public to let the police deal with this and not take matters into their own hands.”
