Majority of NHS staff in Reading & Wokingham vaccinated
Figures released say 88% of staff have now received a first dose
A large majority of NHS staff in Reading and Wokingham have received their first Covid-19 vaccine dose.
The latest figures were revealed at Reading borough Council’s (RBC) Health and Wellbeing Board on Friday, January 22.
Around 4,400 staff have been vaccinated out of 5,000 at Royal Berkshire Hospital and Wokingham Hospital. This is around 88 per cent.
Care homes
Meanwhile, health leaders expect Reading to meet its target for all care home residents and staff to receive their first dose.
There were 716 care home residents in Reading as of December, according to analysis of Care Quality Commission data by CSI Market Intelligence.
GPs and local vaccination services have been asked to give injections to every care home resident and their carers in their area by the end of January.
Other groups
Other priority groups are the over-80s and NHS staff, while the over-70s and clinically extremely vulnerable will soon be able to receive the vaccine.
Five GP sites have been set up in Reading to vaccinate the general population, covering all six primary care networks in the town.
There are not yet figures for the total number of people who have received the vaccine in Reading or the Berkshire area but there are figures for the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West area, which is run by a single integrated care system.
The latest data for this wider area shows 118,829 people have received the vaccine, 54,760 of which are under-80 and 54,760 within the over-80s group.
Just over 9,500 second doses have been administered, with 2,796 given to those under 80 and 6,713 to those in the over-80s group.
In total, 121,338 doses have been administered.
