A MAJOR road in Windsor is to be hit with some overnight closures in September amid maintenance work to the highways.

The Royal Windsor Way will be closed off in areas between the B3024 Dedworth Road roundabout in the south and the roundabout at the junction with the M4 in the north.

Closures will start from September 4 and are expected to be in place between 8pm and 5.30am, while both roundabouts will remain open.

The work on A355 and A332 Royal Windsor Way is set to include surface treatment, line painting, barrier repairs, and new cats’ eyes and street lighting.

The southbound carriageway will remain open during work to the northbound section of the road, and vice versa.

Overnight closures will take place:

Monday 4 September to Saturday 9 September (five nights) on the northbound carriageway with the road reopening Saturday morning

Monday 11 September to Saturday 16 September (five nights) on the southbound carriageway with the road reopening on Saturday morning

Overnight closure on Monday 25 September of the southbound carriageway and associated slip roads

Overnight closure on Tuesday 26 September of the northbound carriageway and associated slip roads

Cabinet member for highways and transport Councillor Geoff Hill said:

“Routine inspections have identified the need for essential maintenance to this key route into and out of our borough.

“Undertaking this work now means the road will be ready for the winter, when the weather conditions can place the greatest strain on our highways infrastructure and will avoid more extensive repair work in future.

“By making this investment now, we can ensure this key section of road is fit for purpose for everyone to use going forward.

“This project will help maintain a key route and connection for residents, businesses, as well as visitors to our borough.

“While I understand that work to our highways network inevitably brings some temporary disruption, we will be striving to keep this to a minimum and will be relaying key information about the closures and diversions to residents and businesses in the vicinity of Royal Windsor Way so they can plan their journeys effectively.

“Advanced signage will also be in place informing motorists of the upcoming closures.”

During work to the northbound section of the road, the diversion will follow the A308 Maidenhead Road – A308 Windsor Road, A308 Braywick Road, A308 Frascati Way, St Cloud Way, Bridge Road, A4 Bath Road, A355 Tuns Lane.

The diversion during work to the southbound section will be the same route in reverse.
