Armed forces families in 156 military homes around Burghfield will see a major boost from the Government.

Reading West and Mid Berks MP Olivia Bailey says local military families are able to benefit from the plan – with the Government committed to upgrading and modernising nine in 10 forces family homes, and the creation of a new Defence Housing Service to better support military families.

The plan was made possible by Labour’s deal to bring 36,000 forces family homes back into public ownership earlier this year, including 12,466 homes in the South East.

Labour’s landmark buy-back saved over £200m per year in rent payments, savings which are now being reinvested in fixing forces’ homes.

The plan delivers on Labour’s manifesto commitment to back Britain’s Armed Forces community “after years of chronic underinvestment by the Conservatives left satisfaction with service accommodation at record lows – driving down military morale driving many to leave the forces”.

“I am proud to represent so many brave men and women serving our country, and am delighted that this Labour Government is ensuring that our forces families here in Reading West and Mid Berkshire have good homes to live in,” said Ms Bailey.

“Today’s announcement of record investment, a ‘Forces First’ approach and a new Defence Housing Service will deliver homes fit for our local heroes.

“When we talk about national renewal, this is what we mean.”
