Residents in the Berkshire village of Streatley and their neighbours in Goring in south Oxfordshire are preparing to join together for a potentially record-breaking street party on Sunday.

In a repeat of the street party they held to mark the Queen's Diamond jubilee in 2012 around 500 trestle tables will be joined together to run continuously the full length of the road that joins the two picturesque villages.

The street party will straddle two counties and could set a record as the longest street party in the country.

3,500 people have booked places at the tables with around a 1000 more expected to join in from the sidelines.

Live music and even opera will be performed in rectory gardens in Goring and this time a PA system will run the entire length of the 1.5km route to ensure everyone knows what's going on and can share in the entertainment.

The event is part of the Gap festival which is taking place in both villages.

Ginny Avery is the artistic director:

"The street party will run from the top of Goring High Street to Streatley High Street, it's about 1.5 km long and we're expecting 3,500 to be seated and around a 1000 people to be 'promenading' along the sides, so it's going to be quite a busy day!"

Ginny says placing people along the street party tables is always tricky:

"The residents of Goring and Streatley were invited to apply for a table, or a seat and obviously they could say if they wanted to be near a particular part because it's a long area so they might want to be near where they live or near the village hall for disabled toilets or for example my husband and eldest son are retained firefighters, so they're on-call firefighters, and they need to be by the pump which will stationed by the Miller of Mansfield.

"So people have to be in certain areas so it's been a big jigsaw puzzle. Louise, Ben, and the main organisers Ron, Stephanie and Simon have done an incredible job and deserve a huge G&T and a holiday after this!"

The event will take place from 1230 until 6pm on Sunday .
