The Good Friday Lambourn open day which attracts thousands of people to the valley of the racehorse has been called off.

Organisers say they've taken the decision with 'bitter regret' after weeks of wet weather caused areas used for car parking to be flooded or unusable.

The annual event attracts around 10,000 people who get to visit racehorse yards in and around Lambourn.

The event raised £100,000 last year for the welfare of all the Lambourn Valley’s hard-working stable staff and their families.

In a statement organisers said:

"Following an exceptionally wet spring, with the springs rising at an unprecedented rate, and with no immediate improvement forecast, the Committee bitterly regret that they have no alternative but to cancel the event on next Good Friday, 29th March, due to either flooded or unusable car parks."

A silent auction will continue online and some sponsors have said they don't want their money back.
