Police make witness appeal after kidnap in Reading

A 20-year-old man was attacked and bundled into a car

Police is appealing for information to a kidnap in Reading.

The kidnap happened in Elgar Road South between 8pm and 8.20pm on 22 May.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was assaulted by three men and then forced into a black car which was in convoy with another black hatchback car.

The victim was released a short time later with minor injuries to his face. He did not require hospital treatment.

The force has arrested three men, aged 24, 25 and 27, all from Reading, in connection with the offence.

Frightening

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter said:

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault and kidnap, has any footage of the offence or of the offenders or vehicles, to please contact Thames Valley Police as soon as possible.

“The victim has been identified and supported by the force, after this extremely frightening ordeal.

“I would like to reassure the community that I believe this was a targeted attack and that there is no threat to the wider public.”

Arrests

A 24-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man from Reading have been arrested on suspicion of kidnap.

The 27-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

They have all since been released on conditional bail until 20 August.
