Newbury sports hub revealed
Council shows off images of the facilities they say will replace the Faraday Road sports ground
Images of a proposed new sports hub in Newbury have been published showing showing the club house and playing pitch.
A planning application has been submitted for the Sports Hub site which will be located on land at Newbury Rugby Football Club.
West Berkshire Council say it will feature a 'world-class' artificial turf pitch that can be used for a variety of sports and activities.
The new sports pitch will have floodlights and a fully accessible spectator stand with seating so that people can watch matches and training . There will also be a club house with four changing rooms, a board room and a function room.
The new facility is scheduled to open next year.
The council say it will help deliver their Playing Pitch Strategy, and provide a Step 4 facility – which means teams will have the facilities needed to play in higher leagues. It will also serve as a replacement for the Faraday Road Sports Ground, which closed ahead of the regeneration of the London Road Industrial Estate.
Councillor Howard Woollaston, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, said:
“The Newbury Sports Hub is an exciting new facility for the town and like many people I cannot wait for it to open next year. Support for England at the Euros, and the recent British and Irish Lions tour has shown the passion there is for watching and playing sport and this new pitch will deliver first-class facilities for playing football, rugby and more.
“Submitting a planning application is an important milestone as we progress with our plans for the Hub. Things are really beginning to progress now, with work on the site to get underway once planning permission is granted.”
