An investigation has been begun after illegal building work started on a site in west Berkshire over the weekend.

The development on land at Lawrences Lane in Thatcham began without planning permission.

West Berkshire council say they will be taking enforcement action and say they have visited the site with Police and a traveller liaison officer.

A Council spokesperson said:

"A planning application was submitted for this site late on Friday 13 August to West Berkshire Council. This application has yet to be validated and processed.

"The Council will be taking planning enforcement action with the intention of preventing any further unauthorised development occurring.

"The Police do not have responsibility for enforcing breaches of planning controls. However, there will be an increase in police presence around the area."
