If you are one of the many people considering using National No Smoking Day as a prompt to quit smoking, Smokefree Hampshire, the county’s Stop Smoking Service, say they can help.

Commissioned by Hampshire County Council, the support service provides expert help in person or over the phone – there’s also advice for those who would prefer to ‘quit on their own.’

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Adult Services and Public Health, Councillor Liz Fairhurst, said:

“Giving up smoking is difficult and willpower alone is often not enough to kick the habit. Giving up greatly improves your own health, as well as the health of those around you and evidence shows that you are much more likely to be successful with expert help.”

The proportion of people smoking in Hampshire has continued to decline and in 2019, only one in ten adults continued to smoke. Over the course of a year, about 40 per cent of smokers will make a serious attempt to quit. Last year, 3500 people in Hampshire gave up the habit with the free support on offer.

To take the first step to give up, people can self-refer to Smoke Free Hampshire, call the Quitline on 01264 563039 or text Quit to 66777.
