A NEW outline planning application has been submitted for residential land at Reading Golf Club, after a previous application was withdrawn last November.

The previous application attracted more than 2000 objections but the council say those will not be considered for this application and anyone unhappy must raise new complaints.

The new planning application differs from the previous one by a reduction in the number for dwellings proposed from 260 to 257. Fundamentally however the main elements of the proposed development remain unchanged.

The protest group 'Keep Emmer Green' said:

"It has never been adequately explained why the first application was withdrawn by the applicants, although the Golf Club have indicated that they required more time to address the responses to the consultation with the public.

"Reading Borough Council have announced that they are not prepared to carry over the objections to the original plan and that residents are once again required to register their objections to what is, in effect, a similar proposal.

"KEG will be strongly opposing this unwelcome and unnecessary application which, if approved, would result in the loss of precious green space and be detrimental to the Community as a whole."

The Golf club is planning to leave the Kidmore End Road site to move to Mapledurham after merging with the Caversham Heath Golf Club. They say they want to leave a legacy for the benefit of the Emmer Green community.

The fresh planning application can be accessed and commented on via the Council’s planning portal at http://planning.reading.gov.uk/fastweb_PL/welcome.asp. The new application number is 210018. The other way to submit comments is by email to Golfclubcomments.planning@reading.gov.uk

Reading Borough Council’s planning team is extending the usual three week window for public comments to six weeks, in recognition of the significant interest in the application and the large number of documents that need to be considered. The closing date for comments is therefore 18th March 2021.

The application and all associated comments will then be considered by the Council’s Planning Application Committee in the Spring.
