Man arrested after serious assault on Winterthur Way footpath in Basingstoke

Police have arrested a man following an assault that left a young man with serious head and facial injuries on 19 June

A man has been arrested following a serious assault on a footpath in Winterthur Way, Basingstoke.

Police were called at 7.09pm on Thursday 19 June after reports of an altercation involving three men and a woman outside blocks 1 to 53 on Winterthur Way.

A man in his 20s was assaulted during the incident. He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and injuries to his face and eye. He has since been discharged.

On Friday 20 June, a 35-year-old man from Basingstoke was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been released on police bail with conditions until Saturday 20 September, pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Helen Parkes said, “We are continuing to investigate this incident and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
