A Christmas event planned in a north Hampshire town has been called off due to storm Arwen.

The Frost fair in Farnborough will no longer go ahead due to forecast high winds.

In a statement Rushmoor Borough Council said:

"Disappointingly we have been forced to cancel tomorrow’s Farnborough Frost Fair (November 27) due to Storm Arwen, and predicted winds of up to 40-50 mph, and heavy rain, possibly turning to sleet or snow.

"With winds of this speed, it would be unsafe for us to hold an outdoor public event in a busy town centre, for both shoppers and stallholders."

The council said they had other free Christmas events planned which they hoped would go ahead normally.
